Bloggers, Before You Switch to Vlogs

Bloggers, Before You Switch to Vlogs

There are some elements of art and rules of visual communication that maybe only those who have officially received their DKV education can understand. Professional background seems to greatly affect the quality of the video produced.

I'm not a video subscriber. Watching videos seems to me a huge waste of time because videos distract so much. However, it cannot be denied that the media for exchanging information in the form of a combination of moving images and sound has penetrated various circles of society from all sides. Watching videos is very entertaining! Much more entertaining than just reading text, viewing pictures and listening to music as themselves separately. The cost of internet access in Indonesia is getting cheaper and cheaper, even almost free. Cellphone specifications are getting higher and higher every day, at increasingly affordable prices.

Accessing videos every day is like no burden. However, our point of view as viewers has closed our eyes and ears to the much broader discussion of art and video-making techniques. We, as video lovers, only know in terms of the results, which can only conclude that the video is good or bad after watching it, without wanting to know the process of making the video from the start.

I admit that I am too late to discuss these kinds of things because when I look at the videos they make, I check their publication dates and most of them have been there for over a year!

There was once a feeling of envy. I want to go along with them to switch to vlogs like them because I personally feel very entertained by the works they make. But looking at the editing workload, graphic and sound effects they do here and there, how come I feel insecure about myself?

This feeling of inferiority is not without reason. Because, I admit that creating video content requires more special attention and a longer processing time. It can't be helped, media in the form of video is very closely related to time. There is a duration in the video, something you will never be able to find in written media.

In a video we can find at least three forms of information exchange media at once. The media that I mean here are media in the form of writing, pictures and sound. How to combine text, images and sound is what I'm not good at. There are some elements of art and rules of visual communication that may only be understood by those who have officially studied Visual Communication Design.

Professional background seems to greatly affect the quality of the video produced. As the quality of the blog articles of professional writers will automatically be good because they already have experience in that field. In essence, my knowledge and resources are still not there.

Have a course program or school majoring in visual communication design and writing guidance that you want to advertise here? You can try to post a link .

The following are some of the reasons that made me discourage from moving to vlogs because it can't be helped to create a vlog that requires extra improvement in various ways. So, for the time being it looks like I can only take on the role of observer. Therefore, my opinions about vlogs will of course be limited to my point of view as a video viewer, not as a video maker.

From a Creator's Point of view

Vlogs Need Large Storage Space

The first thing to consider is the file size. The video size is not small! For a video the size of a cellphone screen with a duration of about five minutes, it can take up more than 10 MB of storage space. It would be very wasteful when we want to present a watch list of existing videos through our website. Because when it comes to exclusive hosting costs, then we will of course deal with the quota of storage space and bandwidth, which all require expensive rental costs. Not only that, the number of viewers will also affect the amount of the rental fee. The more the number of viewers who see your video, the bigger the bandwidth load will be. The problem can only be solved by increasing the quota, which also increases costs.

Have a VPS offer that is suitable for naravlogs? Try posting a link here, or asking me to write a special article so I can direct readers to it via the link in this article.

Still Depends on Certain Platforms

Due to constraints on costs and large server loads, as a solution we need to take advantage of third party services that are dedicated to storing and playing media in the form of videos. YouTube is one of them. It's just that you will of course be bound by the policies of YouTube, so it would be very inappropriate if you are the type of person who is sensitive to privacy factors. YouTube does provide their services for free, but you should know that there are things in your videos and people who have watched your videos that they can sell to cover resource financing and taxes, one example is selling statistics. to advertisers.

Difficult to Edit Finished Videos

Editing a finished video is difficult. Minor issues such as misspellings in text that appear on certain clips or just out of sync animation effects can force creators to edit the existing raw video file from scratch. It takes a long time. Then you also have to upload the new video. It also takes a long time.

Very different from blogs which mostly contain only text. Editing text is easy. It's so easy that it doesn't take much time to do it. You also don't need to use a special application to do this. In very limited circumstances, you can even use the built-in note-taking app on each cellphone. One example is when you create a blog with the Mecha content management system .

Need Lots of Weapons

At a minimum, you must have a video camera, a computer with sufficient specifications to perform video editing activities, and of course some software for editing recorded videos.

Need Collaboration

You cannot create your own vlog. At least you need a friend to hold your camera. Unless you're not shy about walking around by yourself with a camera pointing at yourself. Talking to yourself.

If you are a beautiful or handsome person, maybe it's understandable, but if you are an ugly person, how about it? That ugly can't be excused ...

Need the Right Time

In most cases, you cannot record a video of the activity during a meteor shower. You really have to know when is the right time to shoot a video. Want to record a video of the children studying at school? Don't take video pictures on the Day of Judgment!

Must Be Physically Active

You have to be physically active. You have to show whatever emotions you want to express at that moment. These kinds of things usually become tiresome as health and mood conditions will greatly affect the quality of the final result.

Must be Once

Suppose you are making a video of the process of opening a package with a complex packaging, but then you realize that you have opened the wrong position at the beginning. How do I cancel it?

Suppose you are making a video about the stages of cooking but forgot to add spices in the third stage. How do I repeat it? If your cooking is burnt, how do you cancel it?

Failed to knock down the dominoes in a row? Reorder from scratch, record again!

Disturbing Society and Environment

Don't just record video. You are a layman! Even a professional journalist still needs to ask permission from the parties concerned before recording certain locations for their purposes.

Ethics must be maintained, and always remember that your goal in shooting videos in a community environment is to take advantage of them. Don't be hypocritical, because even when you claim that you are doing all of this voluntarily without considering the financial benefits, you will still take advantage of traffic and the opportunity to be the center of attention.

Try to think about how to make people feel not being used, let alone being disadvantaged. Maybe you can pay them, or discuss what benefits you can give them through the videos you make. They have the resources you need for videos, and you have an audience to receive their messages from. It would be great if you write messages on the video that you make that the video has been approved by the community. These kinds of things can increase the audience's confidence so that the quality of the video you make will automatically increase, not in terms of the quality of the work but in terms of the quality of the sources in it.

Acting, acting, acting!

Even though I advise you not to be hypocritical, but it can't be helped to be able to make interesting videos, we really have to be hypocritical. Starting from the spatial arrangement, lighting and even physical appearance is something that must be considered carefully. You need to shower and dress up before shooting a video, even though you usually rarely shower. You have to smile and be enthusiastic in front of the camera even though you are usually a pessimistic person and like to write upsetting statuses on social media.

But hypocritical things like that, if they can become a habit, will actually have a positive impact on you. So my advice, if you can and get used to doing that, just try to do it over and over again! It will give a positive aura to the people around you and maybe people will find it easier to take the initiative to greet you because people already see you as a friendly and optimistic character through the videos you make. Positive responses from other people will of course have a positive effect on you too. So that slowly your acting habits will form a new, more positive person in you, so that later you don't need to act anymore.

You May Stop Writing
Due to the large amount of resources required, the long processing time, and once you realize that conveying ideas via video is much more interesting, these things may cause you to slowly stop writing.

From an Audience Point of view
Difficult to Skip to Important Sections
YouTube users will usually take advantage of the skip feature to mark important parts of the video. This link works as if you were to provide additional sub-headings in the article to separate one paragraph from another. But this is very platform specific, as not all online video players are able to save certain minutes as bookmarks .

No Search Feature
The video file format is binary data, and the only piece of content in a video that has the potential to be searched by machines is the sound portion. But without converting it to text, it remains impossible to search for certain words in videos with current technology. Unless your video has an automatic transcript feature, where each word in the transcript has a link that will take you to certain parts of the video.

Wasting time

Since it is difficult to skip to important sections and difficult to find just the part we want to find, we need to watch the video from the beginning to the position where the part we are looking for is finally found. The duration in the video will take up our daily lives. This is different from blog articles which are mostly just text, which we can scan to any position we want without having to read it from start to finish.

Results Will Not Betray Business

Although it is difficult in terms of production and time management, the results obtained will certainly be in accordance with the efforts made. Video is no longer a powerful medium that is easy to ignore because no matter how we try to resist it, we will still need it. Video is the only medium that comes closest to reality in life, so integrating video into everyday life will feel a lot easier because even without video in this world, we have actually been spectators since time immemorial. Seeing and hearing life using the eyes and ears, is one of the activities that comes closest to watching videos, right?
